Why I don’t schedule posts

I’ve recently starting looking up ways to better my blog because I want to improve and do better. I’ve had blogs in the past but quit so I want to continue with this one now that I don’t have any other book outlet (I use to make “booktube” videos as a book outlet but stopped after 5 years). Every website or blog I’ve gone to, to find improvement tips listed “schedule posts” as a tip.

I don’t like to schedule post. I like to discuss what comes to my mind as soon as it does then share it with the world. I don’t want to write several posts I’m excited about then wait to post them. What if my mood changes? What if I’m not excited about the post anymore and then decide not to share it? I’d feel like I wasted so much time writing it when I could be doing other things.

I also don’t like following schedules because if I have one and miss a day, I’m beyond stressed out. I don’t want to feel like I need to post book reviews on Wednesdays and discussions on Friday’s. I want to be free with my content. If I don’t post, it’s because I’m blanking on what to say or busy with reading or busy with life.

Not only that, but I feel like my writing isn’t as good when scheduling posts. I feel like my writing comes across as just “writing so I have a post for the day”. Meaning there’s nothing personal in my writing. It’s just words on a post. Not sure if that makes much sense. I’m running my blog so I can connect on a personal level with other blogs, not so I can have a post on certain days of the week.

So, again, I can’t schedule post. It feels too formal for me. I love to be a free-spirit. What about you? Do you schedule posts? Does it work for you? Do you not like to schedule post? Why? Why not? Let’s discuss!

  1. I have tried to schedule one blog post per week. So far I have found that it’s quite challenging. I run into the issue of not having anything to talk about or not wanting to because of school. So keep doing what you are doing!

  2. What a great post and I know how you feel! If it’s working for you then keep doing it. I think it’s certainly more gratifying to be posting ( and then receiving like and comments) on content that you’re excited about. Quality is preferable to quantity 😊

  3. Scheduling definitely helps me. I’m one of those writers who needs to start writing whether I have something to say or not and about halfway through page 5 I figure out that I do, in fact, have an opinion about something 🙂 I like the structure and consistency of a schedule and it encourages me to write BEFORE I need a post. Then I have time to read, edit, and consider exactly what I want to say. It also just keeps me going and reminds me that once a week, someone’s expecting me to be there for them so I better make that effort to show up 🙂

    1. Ooooh I’m so happy to hear it works for you! I can’t totally understand your perspective especially with you being a writer. A writers brain almost never stops with ideas 🙂

  4. I do, in fact, schedule my posts. I like my posts to be spaced out and even though I have no fixed blogging schedule, I feel scheduling is so helpful. I see where you’re coming from though. Because mine are usually book reviews or blogging tips, they’re not too personal. WIth more personal and ‘me’ posts, I don’t schedule them! It’s great to see another perspective!
