Thoughts:

This one pains to write. This was my first DNF of 2020. I joined a goodreads group that planned to read this trilogy between January and March. I was beyond excited to join and read it with everyone. I remember seeing this book a few yeas ago when it first came out (2016) and thought it sounded really interesting but I just could not get into it.

I found the book to be incredible slow. It was also confusing at times. The chapters change not only the POV but also the plot taking place. So when you finally get back to the chapter with the main character, she is still in the same place you left off which is literally her just walking through the jungle. I read about 33% of the book (107/322 on my library ebook) and the character felt under developed the whole time. I didn’t feel like she grew at all.

Maybe I would have enjoyed this book when it was first published but I did not enjoy it now. I feel bad having to put this down but I don’t want to waste my year in 2020 reading books I’m not enjoying and then putting me in a reading slump. I’m trying to change my reading ways.

Have you read this? How did you enjoy it?
