“Down the TBR Hole” is a meme created by Lia (@ Lost in a Story).
Most of you probably know this feeling: Your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing, and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about or why you added them. Well that’s going to change!
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads “Want to Read” shelf.
- Order by ascending date added.
- Take the first five (or ten, if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books.
- Decide: Should it stay or should it go?

Seven Deadly Shadows by Courtney Alameda and Balynne E. Maetani \\ Young Adult, Fantasy, Mythology
This sounds really good. I love books with mythology entwined. Plus I just LOVE the cover! I hope I can get to it sometime this year. That would be pretty cool! Fingers crossed. Verdict: Keep
The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow \\ Young Adult, Sci-Fi
This cover is GORGEOUSSSSS. It sounds good too. I feel like I have the physical copy of it but I’m not 100% sure, hehe. I think I’m going to keep it for now until I figure that out! Verdict: Keep
Girl in Luv by Jay Crownover and Rebecca Yarros // New Adult, Romance
Although this sounds good and I like the cover, I just can’t see myself ever reading it. I feel like it will just collect dust on my goodreads TBR (not real dust XD). It has pretty good reviews though so maybe I’ll change my mind a different day! Verdict: Go
Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria // Young Adult, Fantasy
I read the first few lines of Chapter One and LOVED it. I think I’m going to keep this for now because it sounds super good. I also just really like the dark creepy cover. I hope I can get to it soon and enjoy it! 😀 Verdict: Keep

Outrun the Wind by Elizabeth Tammi \\ Young Adult, Fantasy, Mythology
The first page really captured me. The synopsis sound super intriguing so I think I’m going to keep this one for now. Not sure when I’ll read it but hey, maybe soon! Verdict: Keep
Hood by Jenny Elder Moke \\ Young Adult, Retelling
It sounds really good but I’m not a huge fan of Robin Hood. I think I’m just going to put this in my go pile for now. Maybe one day I’ll read it but I doubt it. Verdict: Go
The Winter Duke by Claire Eliza Bartlett \\ Young Adult, Fantasy
I love this cover, but I can’t see myself actually buying this. I might get it from the library one day but currently there are way more books that I’m excited to read! Verdict: Go
The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu \\ Young Adult, Fantasy
I’ve had lots of opportunities to buy this on Kindle when it was on sale but I just couldn’t talk myself into it. The cover is stunning but I just can’t see myself reading this. Maybe one day but for now, no. Verdict: Go

The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker \\ New Adult, Contemporary
I absolutely LOVE this cover. I love that it takes place in Alaska too. That is one place I would love to visit someday. My fiance and I are actually considering going there for our honeymoon! The synopsis appealed to me once but after rereading it, I don’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I would have years ago. Goodbye beauty. Verdict: Go
The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski \\ Young Adult, Fantasy
I’m not 100% sure why I added this in the first place. I like the idea of a low status making it illegal for people to taste sweets or wear colors. Maybe that is why I added it but the rest of the synopsis just sounds pretty meh. I don’t think I’ll ever read this. Verdict: Go
The Dark Tide by Alicia Jasinska \\ Young Adult, Fantasy
This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2020 but I just can’t see myself reading it anymore. I absolutely LOVE the cover but the synopsis just doesn’t sound as appealing anymore 😦 Maybe one day I will get it from the library or something. Verdict: Go
The Girl and the Stars by Mark Lawrence // Young(?) Adult, Fantasy
This book has a lot of mix reviews. The synopsis sounds really good though. I really like the cover too. I’m not sure if it’s considered a YA book or an adult book, lol. I think I’m going to keep it for now. My mind might change though. Who knows. Verdict: Keep
