This is a poignant comedy about a crime that never took place, a would-be bank robber who disappears into thin air, and eight extremely anxious strangers who find they have more in common than they ever imagined.

Viewing an apartment normally doesn’t turn into a life-or-death situation, but this particular open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes everyone in the apartment hostage. As the pressure mounts, the eight strangers slowly begin opening up to one another and reveal long-hidden truths.

As police surround the premises and television channels broadcast the hostage situation live, the tension mounts and even deeper secrets are slowly revealed. Before long, the robber must decide which is the more terrifying prospect: going out to face the police, or staying in the apartment with this group of impossible people.

Disclaimer: I cannot find a layout for book reviews that I like yet so I apologize every post has been different XD

Fredrik freaking Backman has a way with words, man. I absolutely love him. I read A Man Called Ove a few years ago and fell in love with his writing style. This book was not at all what I was expecting it to be but I loved it nonetheless!

I’m not quite sure how to express my love for this book. The writing was absolutely beautiful. I loved how all of the characters were interwoven together in some way. I don’t even have the words. It’s hard to explain. The characters weren’t relatable to me but I couldn’t help but love them. Even the grouchy characters made my heart happy.

The writing is just absolute pure perfection. I cannot explain how much I love Fredrik Backmans writing. It’s beyond poetic. He’s definitely one of my favorite authors of all time. This book made me feel, made me think. In my opinion, those are always the best 5 star books. The book felt very slow paced but it was worth it. I really recommend this.

I’m sorry this isn’t a great review. I don’t have the words. I am just in pure utter awe. I got goosebumps. I laughed. I felt all the feels. Please read this at least once in your lifetime.
