2. Have you met a fellow blogger face to face?

I have! Well.. She’s a booktuber, but I’ve gone to Canada to visit Nat at Pickleheartsbooks on youtube! She’s also come visited me in the United States! She’s one of my best book friends. We’ve been friends for roughly 5ish years now. She’s lovely. Go check out her channel! ❤

Yes! I have two doggies ❤ Their names are Macey and Noddle. They’re amazing :3

11. Favorite quote?

Life fractures all of us into little pieces. It harms us, but it’s how we glue those fractures back together that makes us stronger. -The Need Series by Carrie Jones

1. Which book, most recently, did you not finish?tessMmmm, the more recent book I didn’t finish was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets but that’s because it was a reread, and I wasn’t in the mood to read it. My most recent DNF (did not finish) was several months ago and that was Tess on the Road. I tried to enjoy it but I just couldn’t. I guess I’m not a huge fan of Rachel Hartman’s writing style.

2. Which book is your guilty pleasure?twilight-book-coverI feel like Twilight was a huge book almost 10 years ago and so many people loved it. Now it seems like it’s one of the more hated books around. I, however, still really enjoy it. I have  a soft spot for it because it’s what kick started my love for reading ❤

3. Which book do you love to hate?Related imageI think I have to say The Hunger Games. I wasn’t a huge fan of this book at all. I couldn’t get into the 3rd book whatsoever. I tried and tried and tried but I couldn’t do it. I think I love to hate this book just because so many people love it and I’m just like “why though?”

4. Which book would you like to throw into the sea?

defyI was beyond excited for this book before it came out but what it did, I was so disappointed. I thought the characters were bland. I didn’t like the world. I didn’t like the writing. Honest, I’m kind of surprised I even finished this book. I don’t even remember much about it but I remember really disliking it.

5. Which book have you read the most?Image result for harry potter seriesHarry Potter, always. My all time favorite story and characters and world ❤

6. Which book would you hate to receive as a present?Image result for frankenstein bookFrankenstein. I don’t know what it is about it because it’s been so long but I remember really disliking this book. I thought it was really boring and the beginning of the story felt kind of pointless.

7. Which book could you not live without?710888Yo8kLI absolutely love The D.U.F.F. It’s one of my favorite books. I think it’s fun and sexy. Wesley Rush is my #1 book boyfriend. I don’t know why because he’s a huge ass but I love him regardless. I love all the characters in the book. UGH. My heart.

8. Which book made you the angriest?7824322This book only made me angry because of the fact that it takes place when Hitler was around. It made me so angry to see how people suffered. It’s disgusting, really. I just… I don’t understand how a human can be so mean and violent and deadly.

9. Which book made you cry the most?8349244I can’t tell you why this book made me cry because #spoileralert. But I will say this is one of my all-time favorite stories. It ripped my heart wide open and left me bleeding. I loved every single minute of it. It was brilliant.

10. Which book cover do you hate the most?Image result for city of bones bookI think this is one of my LEAST favorite book covers of all time. I just… WHY DOES IT NEED TO HAVE A WEIRD GUY ON IT WITH A CITY AND SHINY COLORS!? I like the new updated covers to this series 10x better!

I’m bad at tagging people so I tag all of you ❤ Happy Reading, lovelies!

Book Review: Eliza and Her Monsters

elizaSeries: Standalone

Synopsis:

Her story is a phenomenon. Her life is a disaster.

In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, and friendless. Online, she’s LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of the wildly popular webcomic Monstrous Sea. Eliza can’t imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves the online one, and she has no desire to try.

Then Wallace Warland, Monstrous Sea’s biggest fanfiction writer, transfers to her school. Wallace thinks Eliza is just another fan, and as he draws her out of her shell, she begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile.

But when Eliza’s secret is accidentally shared with the world, everything she’s built—her story, her relationship with Wallace, and even her sanity—begins to fall apart.

Favorite Quote

“There is a small monster in my brain that controls my doubt.
The doubt itself is a stupid thing, without sense or feeling, blind and straining at the end of a long chain. The monster though, is smart. It’s always watching, and when I am completely sure of myself, it unchains the doubt and lets it run wild. even when I know it’s coming, I can’t stop it.”

Thoughts

I’m having a hard time trying to figure out how I feel about this book. I really enjoyed, but I didn’t love it like most people I know. I thought it was a well done story. It was nice seeing anxiety portrayed in the book but not being the sole focus of the story if that makes sense. I like that Eliza had anxiety but the story wasn’t about that. The story was about her and her webcomic and beginning new friendships. I loved that.

I could really relate to Eliza and her anxiety. There was a point when she felt like she was suffocating when being surrounded by a group of people. I felt that. I’m that way. I hate being surrounded by lots of people. All I can think about is wanting to escape. At first I thought Eliza was just this obnoxious, angry teenage girl, but the more I think about it, I wonder if a part of her anger is because she’s stressed out and anxious. I know I can get annoyed really easily when I’m anxious.

I love how the parents were portrayed in the story. They don’t understand Eliza and her internet friends. They don’t understand why she spends so much time on the internet. I think a lot of people can relate to that because the majority of our parents didn’t grow up with smart phones or the internet. Eliza describe her internet friends in the perfect way and I was like “YAS GIRL, YASS! I FEEL YOU!”. I’ve meet some of the best friends through the internet and booktube.

I loved how accurately the parents were displayed in the story. It made me thankful to have parents that told me to follow my dream and pursue anything that makes me happy. It didn’t matter if I made a ton of money or not, just as long as I was doing what I enjoyed. I know a lot of kids don’t have that. Parents expect them to get a good paying job by being a doctor or engineer.

It was also an interesting topic covered in the story about being a creator with fans and the relationship between the two. It’s amazing how you can start something for yourself, something you enjoy and have it become popular and the more people that like it, the more people that want you…. no, expect you to start creating it for them. It’s like all of a sudden you’re not creating something for yourself to enjoy, you’re creating it for other people.

I think the biggest problem I had with this book is that it took me a little bit to get into the story. I had a hard time connecting with the characters because they’re quiet and reserved. I did end up enjoying them in the end though after I got to them. I also loved the writing and storyline. I thought it was a unique concept to write about. I highly recommend it!

Quiz: Sort Your Dog into a Hogwarts House

I saw this quiz via Flaviathebibliophile and knew I needed to do because I’m in love with dogs and Harry Potter! AKbookworm‘s friend created this quiz!

(I have two dogs I’m going to do. Macey and Noddle. Macey’s answers will be Green and Noodle’s answers will be in Blue. If both dogs share the same answer it’ll be in Pink.)

Let the sorting begin!

1.You take your dog to the a brand new dog park. They:
a.Bravely bounce into the park, introducing themselves to all the dogs.

b.Stick right by your side, annoyed if another dog tries to approach you.
c.Are mostly interested in the agility toys (hoops, jumps) set up.
d.Quickly introduce themselves to the other humans present, figuring out how to get pets/scratches from each.

2.You place a treat under one of three upside-down cups. They:
a.Wait for you to reveal where the treat is.

b.Sniff until they’ve found the right cup, and push it over to receive the treat.
c.Immediately go to the correct cup and treat, no sniffing required.
d.Knock over all three cups to find the treat.

3.A visitor comes over for the first time. Your dog:
a.Runs happily up to the person, wagging their tail.

b.Sticks by your side until you indicate that the visitor is okay.
c.Does something new and unexpected each time you have a new visitor.
d.Doesn’t let the person in until they have been thoroughly sniffed and approved of.

4.It’s time for a treat! Your dog prefers:
a.Pretty much anything you give them. They’re always up for something new!

b.A simple puzzle toy, like a Kong filled with peanut butter
c.A complex puzzle toy, where they have to solve a puzzle to get a treat dispensed (like a shuffle board or flip board)
d.A chew, such as a bull stick or beef knuckle

5.Does your dog have any nervous habits?
a.Nope, they’re always confident.

b.They yawn.
c.They hide.
d.They stick out their tongue or lick their nose.

6.Does your dog bark a lot?
a.Only if approached by an unfamiliar dog or person.

b.All the time.
c.Only if you ask them to “speak”.
d.Yes, but only at a low volume.

7.You take your dog to an obedience class. They:
a.Grow bored after a while and start exploring the area.

b.Keep trying until they get every command perfectly.
c.Pick the commands up quicker than all the other dogs in the class.
d.Figure out how to get to the treats without following a command.

8.Would your dog make a good service dog?
a.Maybe. They’re generally kind to everyone, but also love adventures.

b.Absolutely! My dog would do anything for me.
c.Sure – they’re a quick learner.
d.Nope, there’s no way they wouldn’t get into trouble.

9.You take your dog hiking. They:
a.Run ahead to scout out the trail.

b.Never get tired and stick by your side the whole time.
c.Want to sniff everything.
d.Stay close, but as the leader of your “pack”.

10.You give your dog a new toy. They:
a.Destroy it.

b.Are obsessed with it and play with it for hours.
c.Quickly grow bored with it.
d.Would rather play with the packaging.

Results:

Macey: Gryffindor and Noodle: Gryffindor.

I think it’s funny Macey is Gryffindor because she’s so skittish these days. I’m actually surprised neither one of them are Hufflepuff because they seem like the Hufflepuff type 🙂

Mostly As: Gryffindor – your dog is courageous, brave, and chivalrous.
Mostly Bs: Hufflepuff – your dog is a hard worker, is patient, just, and loyal.
Mostly Cs: Ravenclaw – your dog is intelligent, creative, a quick learner, and witty.
Mostly Ds: Slytherin – your dog is ambitious, cunning, resourceful, and a good leader.

Mini Book Haul

Hello friends! I’ve acquired a few books in the last few days. I’ll be posting a book haul later about other books I’ve got. These 3 are the most recent and I’m SO excited! 😀

Crazy House by James Patterson//

No one gets out alive.

Seventeen-year-old Becca Greenfield was snatched from her home and thrown without reazon into a hellish prison known as the Crazy House. To avoid execution, she’s told to shut her mouth and keep her head down.

Becca was never really good at either.

Her only hope for survival is for her sister, Cassie, to find her—that the “good twin” will stop following the rules and start breaking them, before it’s too late. Because the jailers at Crazy House soon discover they made a mistake that could get both sisters killed…

What To Say Next by Julie Buxbaum//

Two struggling teenagers find an unexpected connection just when they need it most.

Sometimes a new perspective is all that is needed to make sense of the world.

KIT: I don’t know why I decide not to sit with Annie and Violet at lunch. It feels like no one here gets what I’m going through. How could they? I don’t even understand.

DAVID: In the 622 days I’ve attended Mapleview High, Kit Lowell is the first person to sit at my lunch table. I mean, I’ve never once sat with someone until now. “So your dad is dead,” I say to Kit, because this is a fact I’ve recently learned about her.

When an unlikely friendship is sparked between relatively popular Kit Lowell and socially isolated David Drucker, everyone is surprised, most of all Kit and David. Kit appreciates David’s blunt honesty—in fact, she finds it bizarrely refreshing. David welcomes Kit’s attention and her inquisitive nature. When she asks for his help figuring out the how and why of her dad’s tragic car accident, David is all in. But neither of them can predict what they’ll find. Can their friendship survive the truth?

Geekerella by Ashley Poston//

Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic science-fiction series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck and her dad’s old costume, Elle’s determined to win – unless her stepsisters get there first.

Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons – before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he has ever wanted, but Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake – until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise. But when she disappears at midnight, will he ever be able to find her again?

Part-romance, part-love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom.

Reading Slumps Suck

Hello friends!

As some may have noticed… I’ve been slacking really hardcore with posting lately. I’ve also been really slacking when it comes to reading. I read ZERO books in May. I’ve been reading a Court of Wings and Ruin since it came out in the first week of May and have yet to finish it. It’s not that it’s not good, it is. I’m just not in the mood to read it but I don’t want to stop reading it because when I do, I doubt i’ll ever pick it up again. I’m weird like that.

I think a part of me is more in the mood for contemporary since it’s pretty much summer and ACOWAR is like… over 600 pages. But not only that, I’ve wanted to do everything except read. I’ve recently marathoned Teen Wolf (again) up to season 5. I need to finish season 5 then buy season 6 when it comes out. I’ve also started buying bird feeders because I have very hungry birds. I have to fill up TWO feeder’s every single day. I’ve also wanted to start a garden this year since I’m living in a house. All of this has taken up my “reading time” if you will.

I might try to read a short fluffy book like a Kasie West story, but right now I just don’t want to read. How about you? Are you doing well with reading? Are you in a reading slump too?

Books To Read For Christmas

As Christmas comes closer, it makes me want to read Christmasy books to get into the holiday season. I love books that deal with Christmas, the holidays, or even involve some kind of snow. I sadly don’t have a huge list of Christmas books to recommend, but here they are! If you have any book recs that are about Christmas or snow and they’re not mentioned here, leave them in the comments! I need more Christmasy books to read for December!

Image result for let it snow book

I don’t remember much from Let It Snow; however, it did put me into a Christmas mood! This book has 3 different stories that all intertwines together to make one big storyline. I love how each short story had a different character, but it still went together with the book. A snow storm during Christmas Eve? What more can you ask for? Read the synopsis here!

Image result for dash and lily

Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares is about a girl who leaves a “book of dares” on a shelf at the book story and a boy who decides to take the challenge… then a romance slowly blooms. I, personally, wasn’t a huge fan of this book (which makes me really sad) but it was still a really Christmasy novel! It can put you in the Christmas mood, for sure. Read the synopsis here!

Image result for my true love gave to me book

I know a lot of people know about this book, but My True Love Gave to Me was also a good Christmas book! It’s perfect to read a story a day leading up to Christmas! Beware, some stories are better than others. It was interesting reading short stories from authors I never heard of. Read the synopsis here!

Image result for landline book

I was pleasantly surprised when reading Landline by Rainbow Rowell. I wasn’t expecting this book to be as Christmasy as it was. However, it put me in the Christmas spirit. It’s about a woman who starts to second guess her choices after her husband decides to go spend Christmas without her. Read synopsis here!

Image result for bittersweet book

Bittersweet isn’t a book about Christmas, but it does take place with snow! There is also a romance and ice skating involved. The male love interest in this story was sooooo cute. I’m really glad I read this! It was freaking adorable. Highly recommend! Read the synopsis here!

Image result for harry potter bookI know this is an obvious choice, but  I had to put the spectacular Harry Potter on this list. Because HARRY POTTER. I always get in the mood to read this series during the holiday season. It’s so magical. I don’t think I need to link a synopsis for Harry Potter…. right?
