WWW Wednesday 9/9/20

Hello friends! I’m here with a WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and brought back by Taking on a World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

Uprooted

Uprooted by Naomi Novik. I’m reading this book incredibly slow but I’m still enjoying what I’m reading. I’m still not 100% sure what the story is about yet but I think I have a general idea. I’m reading my physical copy as well as a library book so it’s easier to take with me (I can read on my phone or on my computer at work). I also borrowed the audiobook from the library so I can listen to some of it before bed. I’m not a huge fan of the narrator though.

You Should See Me in a Crown

What did you finish reading?

You Should See Me In A Crown by Leah Johnson. This book was everything. It makes me so happy. I picked it to on a whim and I’m so glad I did! You can read my review here if you would like 😊

What do you think you’ll read next?

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1)

Honestly, I’m not sure. I’m kind of in the mood for some dark spooky books. But I also don’t want to burn myself out from reading those before October 🤣 I might try and reread Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I started it a few years ago and enjoyed what I read. I just feel into a stupid reading slump and never finished it.

Do you guys have any spooky book recommendations? What are your 3 Ws? Let me know down below ❤

Books Paired With My Favorite Drinks

Hello! Today I decided to pair some books I enjoyed with my favorite drinks! After doing this post, I realized I do not have many favorite drinks, lol! If you want to learn more about the books I have posted, just click on the pictures 🙂

Warm, Cozy, Fires, Christmas, Comfort (1)

Hot Tea and Gods of Jade and Shadow
I love hot tea when I’m freezing. It makes me feel so warm and cozy. I also drink loads of tea when I don’t feel well. Gods of Jade and Shadow made my heart so happy. I felt all warm and cozy while reading it. Drinking hot tea makes me want to read Gods of Jade and Shadow. You can read my review here 🙂

White Wine and The Selection

Drinking wine reminds me of socializing and get togethers. It’s also just really refreshing. It needs to be sweet thought. I hate dry wine. Drinking white wine makes me want to read The Selection, mostly because The Selection reminds me a lot of the Bachelor XD. There is also a ton of drama and for me, drama needs some wine to go with it.

Warm, Cozy, Fires, Christmas, Comfort (3)

Iced Tea and The DUFF

I love drinking iced tea on a nice, hot summer day. I love being able to tan outside and have a nice refreshing tea by my side. I choose The DUFF because I love reading this book during the summer time. It’s one of my favorites even if it is super cheesy. Drinking iced tea makes me want to read The DUFF because they both remind me of summertime.

Warm, Cozy, Fires, Christmas, Comfort

Coffee and Harry Potter

I saved the best for last. Coffee is my comfort drink. I love drinking it just for the heck of it. It also reminds me of fires and Christmas. I’m not sure why. Harry Potter also reminds me of Christmas and reading by the fire. Drinking coffee makes me want to read Harry Potter because Harry is also my comfort book. I love reading Harry Potter and watching the movies when I’m sad. They make me so happy, just like coffee. ❤

What books would you pair with your favorite drinks? Let me know down below! 😀

Josh & Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren\\
This book was beyond adorable. Hazel is my spirit animal. This book was full of all kinds of humor and cuteness and just the right amount of cheese. I’m still struggling with my thoughts on this book because I loved it so much! Josh and Hazel are complete opposites but the author made them connect so well. I really enjoyed the writing. I felt like I was Hazels BFF while reading! I’m going to check out another Christina Lauren novel because her writing was SO GOOD!

The Proposal by Jasmine Gullory\\
I was enjoying this book for the most part. Until the end when the “conflict” happened. These characters were suppose to be in their mid 30’s or so but they acted like they were in relationship for 12 year olds. Carlos was really sweet. I liked the Nik was a strong female character with strong female friends but the ending ruined the whole book for me, sadly. I’m still glad I read it though! It was an interesting story. Their is a lot of diversity in this story though. That was super fun! 😀

MYSTERY BLOGGER AWARD

Hello fellow readers! I was tagged by Kaira @ The Classy Classics to do the Mystery Blogger Award! Thanks darling! I appreciate it 😀

THE RULES

  • Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Tell your readers three things about yourself
  • Nominate 10-20 bloggers you feel deserve the award
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you
  • Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny one

Three Things About Me:

  1. I’m currently on the registry to be a bone marrow donor. I’m too scared to give blood so I thought being a bone marrow donor is my best bet 🙂
  2. I’m going to college to become an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Helping patients is one of my all time favorite things ❤
  3. Tigers are one of my favorite animals. Elephants are probably a close second!

Karia’s Questions:

1.What is the most embarrassing moment of your life?

Honestly, there wasn’t a huge moment in my life where I was so embarrassed that I remember it. It might be when I was a busser and dropped a glass cup but that’s about it.

2. What is the weirdest ever comment you got and by whom?

The one thing that stands out to me is an old coworker that said to me “are you wearing makeup?” i told her yes and she said “did anyone else notice?” and I said probably not and she said “well I noticed”…. okay? thanks, i think?

3. What is that one thing you just can’t live without?

I hate to say it, but probably my phone. I don’t like being addicted to it but I am D:

4. If you had chose between fame and true love, what will you chose?

True love any day. I think fame would make my anxiety 10x worse than it already is.

5. What is the biggest dream of your life?

I want to travel the world and see new places. I want to learn about new cultures. I want to experience new foods. I just want to experience life. I think it’s so neat how everyone is so different!

The Gilded Wolves by Rashani Chokshi

Set in a darkly glamorous world, The Gilded Wolves is full of mystery, decadence, and dangerous but thrilling adventure.

Paris, 1889: The world is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. In this city, no one keeps tabs on secrets better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier, Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. But when the all-powerful society, the Order of Babel, seeks him out for help, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.

To find the ancient artifact the Order seeks, Séverin will need help from a band of experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian who can’t yet go home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in all but blood, who might care too much.

Together, they’ll have to use their wits and knowledge to hunt the artifact through the dark and glittering heart of Paris. What they find might change the world, but only if they can stay alive.

9999

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

Crush: a strong and often short-lived infatuation, particularly for someone beyond your reach…

Darcy Barrett has undertaken a global survey of men. She’s traveled the world, and can categorically say that no one measures up to Tom Valeska, whose only flaw is that Darcy’s twin brother Jamie saw him first and claimed him forever as his best friend. Despite Darcy’s best efforts, Tom’s off limits and loyal to her brother, 99%. That’s the problem with finding her dream man at age eight and peaking in her photography career at age twenty—ever since, she’s had to learn to settle for good enough.

When Darcy and Jamie inherit a tumble-down cottage from their grandmother, they’re left with strict instructions to bring it back to its former glory and sell the property. Darcy plans to be in an aisle seat halfway across the ocean as soon as the renovations start, but before she can cut and run, she finds a familiar face on her porch: house-flipper extraordinaire Tom’s arrived, he’s bearing power tools, and he’s single for the first time in almost a decade.

Suddenly Darcy’s considering sticking around to make sure her twin doesn’t ruin the cottage’s inherent magic with his penchant for grey and chrome. She’s definitely not staying because of her new business partner’s tight t-shirts, or that perfect face that’s inspiring her to pick up her camera again. Soon sparks are flying—and it’s not the faulty wiring. It turns out one percent of Tom’s heart might not be enough for Darcy anymore. This time around, she’s switching things up. She’s going to make Tom Valeska 99 percent hers.

curseA Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

In a lush, contemporary fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Brigid Kemmerer gives readers another compulsively readable romance perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer.

Fall in love, break the curse.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she’s instead somehow sucked into Rhen’s cursed world.

Break the curse, save the kingdom.

A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn’t know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what’s at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.

Let’s Go Swimming on Doomsday by Natalie C. Anderson

Forced to become a child soldier, a sixteen-year-old Somali refugee must confront his painful past in this haunting, thrilling tale of loss and redemption for fans of A Long Way Goneand What is the What

When Abdi’s family is kidnapped, he’s forced to do the unthinkable: become a child soldier with the ruthless jihadi group Al Shabaab. In order to save the lives of those he loves, and earn their freedom, Abdi agrees to be embedded as a spy within the militia’s ranks and to send dispatches on their plans to the Americans. The jihadists trust Abdi immediately because his older brother, Dahir, is already one of them, protégé to General Idris, aka the Butcher. If Abdi’s duplicity is discovered, he will be killed.

For weeks, Abdi trains with them, witnessing atrocity after atrocity, becoming a monster himself, wondering if he’s even pretending anymore. He only escapes after he is forced into a suicide bomber’s vest, which still leaves him stumps where two of his fingers used to be and his brother near death. Eventually, he finds himself on the streets of Sangui City, Kenya, stealing what he can find to get by, sleeping nights in empty alleyways, wondering what’s become of the family that was stolen from him. But everything changes when Abdi’s picked up for a petty theft, which sets into motion a chain reaction that forces him to reckon with a past he’s been trying to forget.

In this riveting, unflinching tale of sacrifice and hope, critically-acclaimed author Natalie C. Anderson delivers another tour-de-force that will leave readers at the edge of their seats. laurelsfloweers_0008_vectorsmartobject

somedayySomeday We Will Fly by Rachel Dewoskin

Warsaw, Poland. The year is 1940 and Lillia is 15 when her mother, Alenka, disappears and her father flees with Lillia and her younger sister, Naomi, to Shanghai, one of the few places that will accept Jews without visas. There they struggle to make a life; they have no money, there is little work, no decent place to live, a culture that doesn’t understand them. And always the worry about Alenka. How will she find them? Is she still alive?

Meanwhile Lillia is growing up, trying to care for Naomi, whose development is frighteningly slow, in part from malnourished. Lillia finds an outlet for her artistic talent by making puppets, remembering the happy days in Warsaw when they were circus performers. She attends school sporadically, makes friends with Wei, a Chinese boy, and finds work as a performer at a “gentlemen’s club” without her father’s knowledge.

But meanwhile the conflict grows more intense as the Americans declare war and the Japanese force the Americans in Shanghai into camps. More bombing, more death. Can they survive, caught in the crossfire?

Shout by Laurie Halse Anderson

ShoutA searing poetic memoir and call to action from the bestselling and award-winning author of Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson!

Bestselling author Laurie Halse Anderson is known for the unflinching way she writes about, and advocates for, survivors of sexual assault. Now, inspired by her fans and enraged by how little in our culture has changed since her groundbreaking novel Speak was first published twenty years ago, she has written a poetry memoir that is as vulnerable as it is rallying, as timely as it is timeless. In free verse, Anderson shares reflections, rants, and calls to action woven between deeply personal stories from her life that she’s never written about before. Searing and soul-searching, this important memoir is a denouncement of our society’s failures and a love letter to all the people with the courage to say #metoo and #timesup, whether aloud, online, or only in their own hearts. Shout speaks truth to power in a loud, clear voice– and once you hear it, it is impossible to ignore.

Expected Release Date: March 12th, 2019

I love everything Laurie Halse Anderson. I’m not 100% sure why. She writes such beauty books. I’m sure this memoir will be incredibly sad but I’m still beyond excited to read it ❤

Down the TBR Hole #5

word

Down the TBR Hole is a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?laurelsfloweers_0008_vectorsmartobject

The Books:

Anglefall by Susan Ee\\ I’m not a huge fan of this cover anymore. I think I added it to my TBR because I saw an advertisement on my kindle one day. I enjoy books about angles  but I don’t think I’ll end up picking this book up, sadly. VerdictGo

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick\\ I think I added this book because of the cover, but again, it does not sound interesting. I think I’ll have to let this one go…. VerdictGo

The Glass Sentence by S.E. Grove\\ I think I added this because Regan from the Peruse Project enjoyed it and because the cover is gorgeous. However, I’m not a fan of historical fiction in the slightest. I think I’ll have to pass on this one. Verdict: Go

Red Rising by Pierce Brown\\ This is like my number one book I want to read. I think I bought it on my kindle, but honestly, I can’t remember for the life of me. It sounds so good and I’ve heard amazing things about it. I also really enjoy the cover! It’s so pretty and simple and UGH. I need to buy this book ASAP. Verdict: Keep

The Girl from the Well by Rin Chupeco\\ This is another one that doesn’t sound like something I would really enjoy. I think the cover is really neat and creepy. I think it would make a great Halloween story, but I don’t think i’d pick it up. I’m taking it off. Verdict: Go
